Famous for her silken saris, bold eye make-up, unique hairstyles and glittering diamonds, Noor Jehan’s melodious voice touched millions and created a matchless blend of vocal gestures and emotional expressions, which interpreted feelings in a very surreal way.
Noor Jehan’s career spanned six decades and not only did she provide the masses with a plethora of hit songs and ghazals but acted in films as well. She recorded as many as 10,000 songs in Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi and Sindhi language. Not only was she a celebrated playback singer but also a gifted ghazal singer.
After partition, she moved from Bombay and started her film career in Pakistan as actress-singer.
Noor Jehan enjoys an unmatched legacy as a singer in Pakistan and is frequently referred to as Malika-e-Tarannum.
She passed away on December 23, 2000 but continues to live on in the hearts of millions of people in India and Pakistan courtesy her melodious voice and charming personality.
