Tributes to legendary singer-composer Bhupen Hazarika on his 93rd birthday today.

Born on September 8, 1926, in Sadiya, Assam, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, was a stalwart in the annals of India’s cultural heritage. A multifaceted genius, Bhupen Hazarika was an outstanding poet, music composer, singer, actor, journalist, author and film maker of the very highest repute. He was one of the pioneers of the Assamese film industry in the Northeast. His involvement with the Assamese film industry dates back to the industries’ inception.

Era Batar Sur`, `Shakuntala`, `Loti ghoti`, `Pratidhwani`, `Chick Mick Bijul`, `Swikarokti` and Siraj` are some of the Assamese films that were directed by him. He lent his voice and composed songs for the films.

His soulful compositions for Hindi films `Rudali`, `Chingaari`, `Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence` gave a new dimension to Bollywood music. His song `Dil Hoom Hoom Kare` is a legend.

Bhupen Hazarika was known widely for his songs on unity in humanity. His works received many recognition in national and international level with many awards to his name.

The class and quality of his musical creations are of such heights that the people would always remember those with divine passion and respect.
