Tribute to Chitragupt, one of the prominent music directors of Hindi film industry, on his 102nd birth anniversary today.

Chitragupt Shrivastava popularly known as only Chitragupt was the renowned Hindi film music director of 1950’s and 1960's.

Chitragupt was born on16th November 1917 in Karmaini village from Gopalganj district of Bihar. Before turning into music direction, Chitragupt has previously done the job of lecturer in Patna. He is arguably the high qualified music director of Indian cinema. As he was a lecturer in Patna, his academic brilliance did blend with his musical excellence. Chitragupt’s music carries a strong flavor of folk music. He made his songs simple, easy and hummable through his own, unique composing style.

Chitragupt gave very melodious tunes in the 50s and 60s and most of his songs were highly popular. Mohammed Rafi’s song “chal ud jaa re panchi” composed by Chitragupt in the film Bhabhi brought tears in the years of numerous viewers.

Although Chitragupt gave landmark music in films like Oonche Log, Akash Deep, Ganga Ki Lehren, Bhabhi, Oonche Log, Ek Raaz,, Bada Aadmi etc., he did not get much recognition during the golden age may be due to his composition of music is for less significant films.

This unique composer carved a name for himself and charmed his way into millions of hearts with his special type of evergreen music.
