Veteran actress Reema Lagoo passed away today in Mumbai following a cardiac arrest. The actress complained of chest pain last night after which she was rushed to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Andheri, where she breathed her last. She was 59.
The senior actress started her career in Hindi and Marathi films in the late 1970s and early 80s. Lagoo rose to fame after playing the role of Salman Khan’s mother in Sooraj Barjatya’s blockbuster Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), she also played Juhi Chawla’s mom in Aamir Khan’s debut hit Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988). The actress has been a part of several Bollywood successes such as Aashiqui, Saajan, Hum Aapke Hain Koun…!, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Vaastav, Hum Saath Saath Hain and Kal Ho Na Ho. Lagoo has acted in more than 160 films in a career spanning more than 35 years. Her work in comic serials like Tu Tu Main Main and Shreeman Shrimati is also memorable.
She is a winner of four Filmfare Awards for best supporting actress.
Reema Lagoo is survived by daughter Mrunmayee, who is also a theatre and film actor and theatre director.
The news has come as a rude shock to film lovers across India.
