Remembering Prakash Mehra on his 78th birth anniversary. The man who gave us blockbuster hits as Khoon Pasina, Hera Pheri, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Lawaaris, Namak Halaal, Sharaabi. There was a time when he was a much sought-after director every star dreamt of working with.
His one of the cult classic is ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’. The film is a perfect showcase of the best Combinations — Amitabh and Kishore Kumar (songs ) Rekha and Amitabh, Raakhi and Vinod Khanna . A very young Amjad Khan and also don’t miss the much talented Sreeram Lagoo.
The film was the top grossing hit of 1978. The film was the third biggest hit of the decade after Sholay and Bobby. The film was such a huge hit, that people used to stand in queues, waiting endlessly, to buy the film’s tickets. Sometimes the crowds slept in front of the cinema halls overnight in their wait for the tickets.
Although, it was nominated for several major Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, it failed to win in any category.
Watch this movie if only to just experience the stars of the 70’s and one of the best scenes of all times …namely Amitabh before singing “O Saathi re” on stage . He starts off with a simple few lines and then goes into his life story and gets emotional and sings.
Lovers of Hindi cinema and Amitabh Bachchan fan in particular will totally love this movie. Muqaddar Ka Sikandar is a nice movie by Prakash Mehra, which is always good to see with the family.
