Shreeram Lagoo started acting in plays while studying medicine. He formed a theater group, “Progressive Dramatic Association,” with friends. After getting an ENT surgery degree in Mumbai in the early 1950s, he practiced in Pune for six years and then trained further in Canada and England.

He worked as a doctor in Pune, India, and Tabora, Tanzania in the 1960s but continued acting in India. In 1969, he became a full-time theater actor in Marathi plays, starting with Vasant Kanetkar’s play “Ithe Oshalala Mrityu.”

Lagoo became famous for his role in the play ‘Natsamrat,’ written by Kusumagraj (Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar). He was well-known in Marathi cinema and appeared in successful movies like Sinhasan, Pinjra, and Mukta.

His wife, Deepa Lagoo, is a renowned actress in theater, TV, and films. They had two sons and a daughter. Lagoo created the Tanveer Samman award in memory of his son, given to emerging talents in Indian theater.

Lagoo also had notable performances in Hindi films, often alongside Rajesh Khanna, in movies like Thodisi Bewafai, Maqsad, and Souten. He also excelled in films like Devata, Des Pardes, and Sadma.
