Some actors are known for their style. Some for their versatility. Manoj Kumar is famous for his on-screen patriotism, which is so deeply etched in public memory that he came to be known as ‘Bharat Kumar.’

Best known for his patriotic films Purab Aur Paschim, Upkar and Kranti, Manoj Kumar is one of the finest actors Hindi cinema has ever produced.

Manoj Kumar like millions of aspiring actor of the 50s and 60s idolized the superstar of that era Dilip Kumar and aspired to become an actor.

His obsession for Dilip Kumar was such that he had seen Dilip Kumar’s movie ‘Shabnam’ (1949) umpteen numbers of times and when he got the opportunity to become a hero he rechristened himself as Manoj Kumar, after Dilip’s character in ‘Shabnam’.
