Among the greatest composers in Hindi cinema, Naushad Ali reigned supreme in Hindi cine music for a magical three decades. From writing K L Saigal’s favourite song to mentoring Lata Mangeshkar, the composer left his mark on the film music.

Making good use of his deep knowledge in classical music, he created his own style of music. Perhaps more than any other composer, he brought classical music closer to the common listener.
The composer charted a path in the film industry with his uniquely classical compositions that catered to different storylines.

Naushad in his composing career scored music for 65 released films with 636 songs to his credit.

He was the proud recipient of one of the highest civilian honours bestowed by our country Padma Bhushan and the recipient of the highest award for contribution to Indian cinema — Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He also received the Lata Mangeshkar Award, Amir Khusro Award, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award among others.
