Birthday wishes to yesteryear Hindi cinema’s singer Sudha Malhotra.
Sudha Malhotra was discovered by Ghulam Haidar, a prominent music composer of the 1940s. As a result she debuted in a film called ‘Aarzoo’. Later she went o sing many hit songs for movies like Dhool Ka Phool, Arzoo, Ab Dillli Door Nahin, Girl Friend, Didi, Kala Pani, Barsaat Ki Raat, Dekh Kabira Roya and Prem Rog.
She sang as well as acted in the above-mentioned movies.
During the making of the film ‘Didi’, the music director N. Dutta fell ill and the track was needed urgently. Young Sudha was the singer. Always ready to rise to the challenge, Sudha stepped in and took over. She composed the song ‘Tum Mujhe Bhool Bhi Jao..’, recorded it and made the delivery on schedule time. It was but naturally, a hit.
Besides singing in Hindi films, Sudha has sung many non-film geet, gazals and bhajans in Hindi and many regional languages also.
Her last song was ‘Yeh Pyaar Tha Ya Kuch Aur’ for the movie ‘Prem Rog’ in1982. Although she did not have the kind of success she has expected but it must be said that she was the unsung celebrity of Indian Film music in 1950s and 1960s for sure.
