Laxmikant-Pyarelal are easily the most prolific of Hindi film music directors with their career spanning almost four decades, during which they composed the music for 635 films. From Parasmani (1963) and Dosti (1964) to Karz (1980) and Mr.India (1987), Laxmikant-Pyarelal created soundtracks that have become sonic signatures of the age. With their telepathic understanding of rhythm, melody, tempo, and style, they created a new template that set them apart from peers like Shankar-Jaikishan, Naushad, and OP Nayyar.
Other than the quality of their music, they owed their long careers to their relationships in the industry, their reputation of producing music that sold and the clear division of labor amongst the two ­­­­­- Laxmikant composed the tunes while Pyarelal arranged and orchestrated them.
