Birthday Greetings to “Hothon se chhoo lo tum” actor Raj Babar, who turned 66 years today.
An alumnus of the 1975 batch of National School of Drama and graduated from Agra College, Raj Babbar made his acting debut with Kissa Kursi Ka in 1977. The film, however, was banned by the censor board. Raj Babbar rose to fame with his brilliant performance of a rapist in B R Chopra’s Insaf Ka Tarazu (1980). After that, he became a consistent feature of the B R Chopra films like Nikaah, Mazdoor and Aaj Ki Awaz. Some of his popular films are Umrao Jaan (1981), Prem Geet (1981), Nikaah (1982), Aaj Ki Awaz (1984), Ek Chitthi Pyar Bhari (1985), Jhoothi (1985), Asmaan Se Ooncha (1989), Swarg Jaisaa Ghar (1991), Rudaali (1993), Itihaas (1997) and many more. Raj Babbar has acted in more than 150 films and performed in over 30 plays.
Raj Babbar entered politics by joining Janata Dal in 1989, which was led by V P Singh. He later joined Samajwadi Party and was elected as the Member of Parliament of India for three times. In 2008, he joined Congress and was elected for fourth term as Member of Parliament in 2009. He was also a member of Rajya Sabha.
Raj Babbar married Nadira Zaheer and she gave birth to Arya Babbar and Juhi Babbar. He then married actress Smita Patil who gave birth to their son Prateik Babbar.
