Birthday Greetings to Hindi film industry’s illustrious and versatile music director Anandji Virji Shah, who turned 86 years today.
Hailing from the golden era of Hindi film music, music composer duo, Kalyanji Anandji, were renowned for composing some of the best melodies like ‘chandan Sa Badan’, ‘Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas’, ‘Jeevan Se Bhari Teri Aankhen’, ‘Zindagi Ka Safar’, ‘Mera Jeevan Kora Kagaz’ and ‘O Saathi Re’, among many others.
The brothers Kalyanji and Anandji rose from modest beginnings to become one of the top music composers in the Hindi film industry. During the 1970s and 1980s, they dominated Hindi films with their memorable tunes. Kalyanji-Anandji composed music for over 250 films in a career span of over 40 years. They created all sorts of filmi music, timeless classics like their National Award-winning Saraswatichandra (1968) to chartbusters like ‘Laila O Laila’ from Qurbani (1980), ‘Khaike Pan Banaraswala and ‘Yeh Mera Dil’ from Don (1978).
For Kalyanji Anandji, music direction was like falling in love. They did not take very long to compose music as the process was all about inspiration.
They always produced fresh, contemporary music in every decade of their career. A number of their songs also had a lovely blend of rhythm and melody. Finely balanced and truly versatile is an apt summary of their style.
