89 Years of Alam Ara

Today marks the 89th anniversary of Alam Ara, India’s first talkie film which had songs & dance released on this day in 1931 (14–03–1931)

The film was an adaptation of a Parsi theatre play written by Joseph David. The adventurous film tells the story of ageing the king’s two queens and the rivalry between the two queens to take over the reign in their hands.

Master Vithal and Zubeida were the lead pair. Music by Ferozshah M. Mistri and B. Irani. The film was a huge hit at the box office.

Produced under the banner of “Imperial Movietone”. The camera was handled by Adi M. Irani. Directed by Ardeshir Irani Veteran actor, the producer.

Prithviraj Kapoor and the legendary producer, director, and actor from the south L. V. Prasad also acted in the film. Other popular artists of the later period who were in the star cast — Jillo (noted for her mother rules), Jagdish Sethi.e film was a huge hit at the box office.
